If students are not college bound and cannot get in the vocational training classes, the options are limited. They need more vocation training. They need conflict resolution. They need real life skills. They need to be in school. All this funding for early childhood is great, but investment in our teenagers is critical. Quit kicking them down the road. Educate not just graduate. Save our kids.
A Different Run
This summer I took the plunge and ran for state office. I am a teacher. Funding has been cut while more and more requirements have been added. We have not seen a raise in ten years. So in April the teachers walked out. A week before the walkout was to happen, our legislators finally managed …
Cowardly Athlete
I love to do athletic things. I run...slowly. Sometimes I pretend I am in a movie running in slow motion. A slow synthesized mechanic sound plays across the screen...Gooooo Cyyynnndddyyy. Mattress creaks accompany my motions. Six Million Dollar Man mechanized reverberation...waa-aaa-aaa-aaa. I occasionally win my age bracket in races. Once I even came in 2nd …
No Midis Here
I recently read two completely unrelated articles that gave me pause. One I could relate to and one not so much. Maybe not so much that I couldn't relate but that I didn't want to. The first article was from Runner's World by Marc Parent. He calls himself an average runner. Relatable. He did not …

Summer Ennui
I have not written anything too strenuous in a while now. My plan was during summer break from teaching I would spend my time writing, playing the guitar, and working out with a little house work on the side. I started with a strong resolve. What I didn't count on was how lazy I really …
Parking Lot Survival Game
Over 40 years ago my family moved to Moore. Shortly after we moved my dad bought us an Atari. Pong was mesmerizing and I played for hours. Video games showed up at 7-11-- Asteroids, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man. I was never an Asteroids fan. I panicked when the asteroids came flying at me, but I loved Ms. Pac-Man …

Accidental Mooning
The other day I saw a post on Facebook about the traffic on 19th Street. The south side of town has exploded with businesses and houses. 19th Street used to be kind of in the country. It was on the far southern fringe of town. Today it is the fast food hub of the world. …
Sunday Askew: House Woes 3
Week 2 of forced renovation I missed this yesterday because I could not get to the computer in the office. And as I am technologically challenged, I couldn't quite figure it out on my iPad. Not much has changed with the pile of floor boards. They have shifted around some. Fat Ralph, our beagle, likes …

3 R’s
In grade school we learned the 3 R's: reading, writing, arithmetic. Or in keeping with the alliteration - 'rithmetic. I always had trouble with arithmetic both as a class and as an "r". My OCD rejected that phrase because it didn't make sense to me. Plus, unfortunately I'm not fluent in math. Writing at least …
Sunday Askew: House Woes 2
Day 7 of renovation. Not much has changed. I was hoping I could add some videos here, but I have to upgrade and I hate paying for things. Free is always best. Cheap not so much. With cheap, I get a year long renovation. To be fair, my husband did spend today cleaning his office. …
